Launched in February 2008, we have about 10 committed families and many more thinking about it. We are meeting twice a month: a business meeting and a social gathering. At this stage we believe the group is leaning toward an adult cohousing community. Families with children are welcome, but the needs of the adults in the community are an equally high priority.

We prefer locating in Santa Monica, CA, but will consider sites on the west side of Los Angeles. Property here is expensive, but we hope to be able to create a number of affordable units. Sustainability is another important element. A community of about 30 homes would be ideal.

Santa Monica is a choice community for cohousing. A land use plan the city is now developing emphasizes sustainability, affordability, and community - just the commitment our group shares. Santa Monica has one of the best climates in the world and an enlightened government that seeks input from residents in making all its major decisions. We hope our community will be a model of what cohousing can be in Southern California.

If you are interested in the possibility of creating a cohousing community somewhere on the Westside, please send us an email and bookmark this page for updates. You'll be kept informed about how much interest has been shown, the logical steps that other successful cohousing developments have followed, and how else we can make our dream a reality.
